For best results, select your fabric to have a clear contrast between the two sets of 10" squares.
If you're not using a pre-cut layer cake for the 10" squares: Select 12 fat quarters. You can get two 10" blocks from a fat quarter. (You will have left over fabric from each fat quarter.)

Select six 1/3 yard cuts of different colors. Each 1/3 yard cut will yield four 10" squares. A seventh 1/3 yard cut is recommended for design choices. AND 2 yards of Light fabric yields twenty-eight 10" squares plus four extra for design choices.
