How to Slanted Gobelin
Slanted Gobelin stitches are diagonal stitches that can be any length and worked either horizontally or vertically. Worked over at least two bars, slanted Gobelin stitches are used for filling in large background areas and are quicker to stitch than their more compact counterpart, continental stitches.
Horizontal
- Begin by working a diagonal continental stitch: bring the needle up at 1 and down at 2, crossing over one bar.
- Work a longer diagonal stitch by bringing the needle up at 3 and down at 4, crossing over two bars.
- Continue to work horizontally across the row with additional slanting Gobelin stitches by bringing needle up at 5 and down at 6, and so on.
- Continue to work in this manner to work a row of horizontal slanting Gobelin stitches.
Vertical
- Begin by working a diagonal continental stitch: bring the needle up at 1 and down at 2, crossing over one bar.
- Work a longer diagonal stitch by bringing the needle up at 3 and down at 4, crossing over two bars.
- Continue to work vertically up the row with additional slanting Gobelin stitches by bringing needle up at 5 and down at 6, and so on.
- Continue to work in this manner to work a row of vertical slanting Gobelin stitches.
