Slip Stitch (abbreviated sl st or sl)
Slip stitches move stitches from the left-hand needle to the right-hand needle in a particular way. They can be used to create a smooth selvage edge, or they can be used in conjunction with other stitches to create unique stitch patterns on the fabric.
With yarn in back, insert the tip of the right-hand knitting needle into the next stitch on the left-hand knitting needle from back to front as if to purl. Slide the stitch off the left-hand knitting needle and onto the right-hand knitting needle.

This creates a bar across the front of the slipped stitch for an interesting textured look.
Move the yarn in front of the work, then insert the tip of the right-hand knitting needle into the next stitch on the left-hand knitting needle from back to front as if to purl. Slide the stitch off the left-hand knitting needle and onto the right-hand knitting needle.
Slip Stitch Knitwise (abbreviated sl st kwise or sl 1 kwise)
