How to Work a Smyrna Cross Stitch

A decorative stitch that adds texture and dimension to your work. It's essentially a combination of a cross stitch, with a plus (+) on top, resulting in a thick, textured stitch that stands out on your fabric.

Bring the needle up at (1) and down at (2) to create the first half of the cross stitch, then up again at (3) and down at (4), completing a cross stitch. Add the (+) over the cross stitch by bringing the needle up at (5) and down at (6), then up at (7) and down at (8). This stitch can be worked over any number of squares or threads. Follow the chart and written instructions for your design to properly work the stitch for that given project.
