How to Work a Four-Sided Stitch

This stitch has a square or box-like appearance and can be used in various ways, often as a decorative element or as a border.

Bring needle up through the fabric at (1), then back down through the fabric at (2), continue the stitch to make a box or square shape by following the illustration. The last side of one completed box will share a side with the next stitch. This stitch can be worked over any number of squares or threads. Follow the chart and written instructions for your design to properly work the stitch for that given project.
