How to Work a 1/4 Cross Stitch

The ¼ cross stitch is the most delicate variation of the cross stitch and is used to create subtle texture or intricate detail. This stitch is useful for shading, shaping, or filling very small areas. As its name reflects, it forms one quarter of the traditional cross stitch "X” and can slant in any direction. When stitching on Aida, ¼ cross stitches are typically worked over one square, while on linen or evenweave fabric, they are usually worked over two threads.
