Star Stitch (abbreviated star st)
Star stitches are pretty decorative stitches that have lines of stitching going outward from the center, like a star. Star stitch is a two-row pattern repeat. Row 1 is the star base row where the bottom half of the star is made. In row 2, the star is completed. Row 1 also starts with a slightly different version of the stitch to build up the height of the row for the stitching. You may find that you work these tightly, so be mindful of your gauge as you crochet. You may need to work the star stitch with a hook one size larger than the rest of your project.
Note: Crochet does not have standardized naming conventions for special stitches. Designers may call stitches by whatever name they prefer. For this reason, it is difficult to search online for how a particular special stitch is created. Another reason it is hard to find the “correct” way to work a particular special stitch is because each designer might work a special stitch in their own unique way. Be sure to follow the directions stated in your pattern for how to work the stitch.
To work star stitch from this video, begin with a multiple of 10 + 2 chains.
