Loop Stitch (abbreviated lp st)
The loop stitch is a fun, decorative stitch that creates long loops on the front side of your work. It’s used to add texture to a project. Working rows of this fun stitch produces a plush, loopy fabric, which can be used for accents on garments, throws and toys. The loop stitch makes a great mane on crochet animals like lions. It’s also a good stitch for cleaning-related projects such as dishcloths and dusters.
Note: Crochet does not have standardized naming conventions for special stitches. Designers may call stitches by whatever name they prefer. For this reason, it is difficult to search online for how a particular special stitch is created. Another reason it is hard to find the “correct” way to work a particular special stitch is because each designer might work a special stitch in their own unique way. Be sure to follow the directions stated in your pattern for how to work the stitch.
Wrap the yarn from the front to the back over your index finger. Insert the hook in the next stitch and under the strands of yarn from behind your index finger and draw through the stitch. With the yarn loop still on your index finger, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on the hook. Remove the loop from your finger.
