Single Crochet Around a Ring

Sometimes crochet projects use materials in addition to yarn and hooks to create unique projects. You might make an ornament around a metal, wood or plastic ring. Or, you could create crocheted earrings around a metal earring hoop. For these projects, you could make the piece and then sew it around the ring, or cut out some steps by crocheting directly around the ring.

The demonstration and instructions below are for working single crochet around a ring, but in theory you could work any set of stitches around the ring.

Place a slip knot on your hook, hold the working yarn over the top of the ring. Insert the hook into the ring and grab the working yarn, pull the yarn up and above the ring and then through the loop on the hook to complete a slip stitch. Chain 1 to build up the height of the row. Insert the hook into the ring, grab the working yarn and pull the yarn up and above the ring, yarn over and pull through 2 loops to complete the single crochet.
