How to Work a French Knot Using Ribbon

A French knot is a decorative stitch used to create textured, raised elements. When worked with ribbon, it adds an elegant touch, especially in floral designs, where it can represent flower centers or small decorative accents. Typically, 4mm to 7mm wide silk ribbon is used, along with a chenille needle, which has a large eye to accommodate the ribbon and a sharp point for piercing fabric.

Bring needle from fabric back of fabric to front; keeping ribbon taut, wrap twice around needle and insert needle back through fabric from front to back. Hold ribbon taut until needle is completely through fabric, pull gently to tighten.
