How to Long Stitch
Long stitches are parallel straight stitches that are worked vertically or horizontally. Long stitches can be of varying lengths covering two or more bars. Long Stitches are often used to fill in shapes such as circles or squares and can also be used to form areas of color used in artistic landscape-scenery designs or to outline portions of the design.
How to Make a Long Stitch
- Bring up the needle through the canvas.
- Insert needle back down through canvas into a hole that will give you the desired stitch length. You can make your stitches varying lengths depending on your design.
- Pull the yarn through the canvas to create the long stitch.
To make a series of long stitches, repeat the previous steps working each stitch adjacent to the previous one. Bring needle up at 1 and down at 2, up at 3 and down at 4, etc.
