Crochet Cables
Crochet cables are created by changing the order in which the stitches are worked so that they crisscross each other in different ways. Since fabric is being overlapped, crochet cables produce a thick, warm fabric. They can be made in numerous ways over any number of stitches.
To create crochet cables, you will skip stitches, work some stitches in the next stitches after the ones you skipped, then go back and work into the skipped stitches. When you work back into the skipped stitches, you will take your crochet hook in front of or behind the stitches you just worked. This creates the front or back cross of the cable. You can work into the tops of the stitches or work post stitches around the body of the stitches when creating cables.
Follow the directions in your pattern to work the cable as the designer intends. Here is an example of one type of cable to give you a general idea of how the technique is worked.
6-Stitch Crochet Cable
This cable is worked over six stitches. It uses front post stitches that are worked into the previous row to create more dimension.
Cable: Skip the next 3 stitches, front post treble crochet around the next 3 stitches, working behind the stitches just made, front post treble crochet in the first skipped stitch, front post treble crochet in the next skipped stitch, front post treble crochet in the last skipped stitch.
